The ceramic membranes for the wine crossflow filtering: characteristics and advantages
How does a ceramic membrane work?
The body, that is made by high-porous ceramic, contains several round channels running parallel to its longitudinal axis on the surface of which the membrane is mounted.
The suspension to be clarified flows into the channels along the membrane, whereby a partial stream passes through the membrane as filtrate and is discharged by the carrier material.
Due to the very high permeability, the pressure loss on passing through the carrier is so low that it is negligible compared to the
pressure drop when passing through the extremely thin membrane.
What are the main advantages of a ceramic membrane?
- No contamination with the product to be filtered
- Different filtration degrees, depending on the product to be filtered
- Performance granted for long periods
- Chance to sterilize at high temperature (135 °C), with overheated water or steam
- High resistance to mechanical efforts
- Full pH range 0 – 14
- Easy to clean with chemical agents that are common in the market
- High range of filtration flowrates
- Resistance to all the chemical agressives
- Regenerable
- Possibility of countercorrent washing
- High resistance
- No contamination of colours of the products to be filtered
- Low decline of flowrate during working cycles
- Easy to install.
